Snow falling from the leaves of holly bushes create random patterns in on a sloping lawn in Chesterfield County, VA.

A Black-bellied Whistling Duck strikes an interesting pose in Austin, TX.

Big Bown Bench, on the Burr Trail near Boulder, Utah. At the moment that the sun rises above the horizon the rocky peak and the dead juniper branches light up in reddish-yellow hues. Here they were aligned in the photograph, which was derived by manually blending two images focused on the juniper and the rocky peak separately.

A rock with the appearance of a face, lit by the setting sun, behind a much closer angled rock at Devil's Garden in the Grand Staircase. Two images were made, one focused on the closer rock and one the more distant one. Then they were manually blended in Photoshop CS6.

Cottonwoods with yellow leaves provide a backdrop for tall plants with white blossoms near a creek that runs along Burr Trail.

Falls 2. Lower Calf Creek Falls is a most colorful and exciting place. At the end of the Lower Calf Creek Falls Trail in a BLM area not far from Boulder, UT, the scenery also includes beautiful canyon walls, pictographs, and colorful plants and grasses.

The wall to the right of Lower Calf Creek Falls, fantastic in itself, looks even better with the yellow cottonwoods in the foreground.
